Sombra decloaks as Overwatch’s biggest update goes live

The most dramatic single update to Overwatch yet has gone live, adding a new hero, arcade modes, and maps to the mix alongside a host of balance changes and technical upgrades like PS4 Pro support.

The jewel in the crown, however, is undoubtedly Sombra, the latest addition to the game’s ranks. This Meixcan hacker adds a new layer of mechanics to the mix which dispel enemy shields, shut down their abilities, and make it generally harder for people to embed themselves in defensive positions. She’s here to rain on the parade of any Reinhardt, Torbjörn, or Lúcio by taking away their principle form of defence.

She’s also a snazzy cyborg with futuro-hair lifted straight from The Fifth Element. Blizzard just released another animated short featuring Sombra, as well as as those staples of the Overwatch universe Widowmaker and Reaper.

There’s also this awesome 2D animation explaining Sombra’s origins.

Sombra is classed as an Offensive hero, and joins the like Soldier 76, Genji, and Tracer in the cluster of characters which pose high-damage high-mobility threats.

She’s bound to shake up the meta, but there are also a swathe of other additions to Overwatch in the latest patch . 3v1 and 1v1 duelling modes have been added alongside a new map, Ecopoint: Antarctica, the frozen base where Mei first found herself cryogenically frozen.

Overwatch has only been available since May, but has since seen the release of two new heroes, a fresh map, two themed events (Halloween and Rio) in addition to countless balance changes. Rumour has it that a couple more heroes are in the works for 2017; given how exciting both Ana and Sombra have been, we’re excited to see what’s on offer next.
