Okay, men with moustaches can and do lie, but that’s not the point.
Reports that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild probably won’t be ready for the launch of the Nintendo Switch are distressing. Who wasn’t looking forward to a little launch-day-Link?
Thankfully Eurogamer is also reporting that another first-party Nintendo Switch title will be there on time to fill the void: Mario.
“We’ve heard the console’s new Mario will be ready in time to fill this role,” said the report.

Nintendo has previously stated that Switch users can expect new Mario and Pokémon games for the platform within six months of launch. If the reports are true, this was either a conservative estimate or the release date of Mario on the Switch has been brought forward.
We don’t yet know what the new Mario title will be called or what it will look like. The debut teaser for the Nintendo Switch showcased a Mario platforming game (and a woman who believed this was a great game for rooftop barbecues), but this could have been a demo reel.
It’s also since been confirmed that the actors featured weren’t playing on working versions of the console during filming, but were instead provided dummy units. The images of gameplay were later superimposed on the screens using arcane visual wizardry.
In other words: we know almost nothing about this game except that it could make launch day.
The Switch is scheduled for release in March 2017, and if our reading of the celestial bodies is correct, it will cost around £200. We’ll find out more in January when Nintendo hosts its dedicated Switch event.
