You can now make GIFs on a PS4… so 2016 is looking marginally better

Who doesn’t love a good GIF? The answer is ‘absolutely no-one’.

These moving image files are the breath of life when you’re feeling down and the principle repository of all knowledge and wisdom online. Thankfully, it’s now possible to make them from your PS4.

An update to the Sharefactory app allows players to create GIFs of their gameplay that are up to 10 seconds long.

Once footage has been captured using the console’s in-built share button, players then just need to visit the app in order to upload GIFs of up to 10 seconds in length.

It’s even possible to add text to the GIFs in the classic font of memes, which we all know so well.

Your share might have captured your gaming moment in 30fps and at a relatively high-res, but don’t expect UHD GIFs out of Sharefactory; the maximum upload size is 5MB.

Still, that’s more than enough for a decent clip, and who wants a UHD GIF anyway? Not us, that’s for certain.

The only question that remains is what kind of GIF maker you’ll be. Will you make lewd ones using rag doll physics? Will you be the person who constantly shares their underwhelming kills? Or could you possibly be the artist who knows how to make the king of GIFs: the laugh-inducer?
