Latest Pokémon Go update reduces grind even further

A player’s current streak will now be displayed with the following screen. Niantic doesn’t state whether this can be viewed at any time or whether they only appear once as the bonuses are activated.

It doesn’t matter how far apart each capture or Pokéstop visit are, as long as they fall on different days. For instance, a player catching their first Pokémon on Friday at 11pm and then another on Saturday at 1am will be awarded two separate bonuses, even though activities are only a couple of hours apart.

The update is another attempt by Niantic to reduce grind in Pokémon Go. Bonuses will cause players to level up faster, especially at lower levels, and potentially provide several fold more XP per day to players who were only catching one or two Pokémon on the way to work.

At the higher levels, bonuses will be less significant. The transition from level 39 to level 40 requires millions of XP, and players who have come that far will likely scoff at 500XP per day.
